What controls the background color of a module?

I'm trying to figure out why one of my modules has alternating background #2 when everything else has #1. It seems really simple, have I missed it?

For the most part, each module should alternate between your alt1 and alt2 classes. There are a few which will not though such as the news, online users, and poll (that I can think of off the top of my head).

Is there a way to change them via the modules or do I need to edit each template?

For 1.x you would need to edit each template. For 2.0 there is a module shell template that controls this.
