not yet for me...I still a little ways to go. I want to have the gallery and a few other things ready to rock when I do upgrade.

I down loaded it, and will probably play with it on my home server. But I am not going to do anything untill Gold goes live and even then I am not upgrading. I will install clean and import my data..

I'm waiting until they fix up the security holes, and then I'll wait for vBa to catch up.

See you next year, 3.5!

How hard is it to do this? I'm not good at sql. Will they have instructions on coverting this way instead of an upgrade?

How hard is it to do this? I'm not good at sql. Will they have instructions on coverting this way instead of an upgrade? All you do is
1: Install 3.5 with a clean db
2: download impex & upload that to your after you edit the impex config file
3: Go into vbulletin admincp and run the script

Takes about 5 minutes

Impex has all the instructions. It would be just like converting from say phpbb to vb..

Sorry, Impex doesn't work with 3.5 ;)

Ok, well thanks for ruining my day! Are they (you guys) going to get a new import script?

Instead of Impex, upload your 3.5 files to a test folder, export your DB from SSH, than create a new DB, and through SSH import your exported DB to the new DB.

That's all I did. :)

See you next year, 3.5!

How long do new products like this usually take before a stable public version is ready?

Will it really be a year?!?!?! maybe I need to install 3.0.7 afterall :(

I need something up within the next few weeks for my site---but I don't want to have to install it then uninstall and go 3.5!

Is there ANY estimate, no matter how rough, for when VBA products might be mature enough to use publicly (along with 3.5VB)?

Is it not likely to happen in two weeks?

Hahaha! I was thinking the same thing a few days ago until I got my senses.

Do you expect to install something and never upgrade? Welcome to the internet :)

vBulletin 3.07 and vBa have just hit their prime. 99% of the bugs are fixed, they're secure, tons of hacks and modules are available, and everything is running smooth. I can't think of a better time to start a web site.

Will you want to upgrade eventually? Of course. But instead of running a website on beta software with limited hacks/mods and a promise of many urgent security upgrades, go with something that's been aged to perfection.

Outstanding-thanks (coming from a rookie)----darn that I can't wait a little longer, perhaps in a month they would have a stable version where the upgrades would be only minor changes.....but alas, I wouldn't have my vbgallery working with 3.5 anyway, what was I thinking----that won't be out for a while yet!

Any ETA on when vBa and vBaGallery will be 3.5 compatible? :)

Probably right after vb 3.5 is stable. ;)

I have 3.5 running in my computer :) but i will not upgrade until all my hacks will be compatable with 3.5
mholtum i like your idea but you may face a little problem. The hacks we are using has a lot of tables in our boards and if you will go with a clean install and import your data and re apply the jack you may have a problem. Of course you can get over with it but instead of clean install ugrade looks easier to me.

that post, sir, is a tease.
And I am suitably intrigued whether integration may be "soon".

I shall blame you for any breakages if my hopes are dashed to the floor :p

At this point, it's not really feasable to say when vBa products will be ready for 3.5. Of course the release has happened at a time when I have a lot of other things going on in my personal life (moving, family issues, etc), so I'm not going to have as much time to spend on everything each day as I would like. I can tell you that I do have the CMPS *somewhat* functioning on my localhost with 3.5. It's not pretty, but it is coming together. The next step will be the gallery, and then the links directory (updating by popularity of the products). The gallery is going to be the hardest to update, but we will be working as quickly as possible to get all 3 products updated and (unless vB is quicker about their releases than normal) we should have all 3 working quite a bit before 3.5 is out of it's beta/RC stages.

Cool to here that Brian. I accidently updated my main board when trying to update a test board (database names in config.php) and I was wondering when you would start work on vBCMPS and it looks like you've started already :)

but we will be working as quickly as possible to get all 3 products updated and (unless vB is quicker about their releases than normal) the fact you are working on them and the possibility of (even some!) pre-3.5 Gold integration is much better news than you'd have any customer-support obligation for so I'm chuffed :D

I can tell you that I do have the CMPS *somewhat* functioning on my localhost with 3.5. It's not pretty, but it is coming together.I had a play around with trying that and got it working fine.
Except that none of the modules content showed up so my attempt was ugly and thoroughly useless!

You could always install a fresh 3.0.7, impex to that, then upgrade it to 3.5..
That's what I'll probably end up doing.

All you do is
1: Install 3.5 with a clean db
2: download impex & upload that to your after you edit the impex config file
3: Go into vbulletin admincp and run the script

Takes about 5 minutes

Impex has all the instructions. It would be just like converting from say phpbb to vb..

has it dont work with 3.5 all is still not lost :).

If people wish to clean up there database to removed unwanted parts due to adding hacks and that do the following:

1) Back up your forums database
2) install a 2nd install of 3.0.7 with a new database
3) download impex and upload it to your new vb install editing the config to read the old databse (dont need to enter new database info has it reads vb config)
4) login the new vb's admin and run impex using the vb3 inport
5) follow the impex sets to inport everything.
6) check all your data is ported over (note sometimes forums have to moved back in place)
7) if everythings fine remove all files, upload the 3.5 files and update the new install of vb3
8) when update done check everythings fine.
9) readd your skin to the new install.
10) if all if fine and working nice, do away with all files on the new install.
11) remove all files from your old install (main site) and upload the 3.5 ones editing the config to use your nice new clean database you just made :)

Will the vBa Gallery and vBa CMPS use the new 'Plugin System' of vBulletin 3.5 instead of requiring PHP file modifications?

Brian
06-11-2005, 03:03 PM
Most likely. There's not currently a hook for the modifications to the global.php file that are needed for the CMPS, but we have requested that vB add them.

I am currently experimenting with vBulletin 3.5 beta 1 and vBa CMPS 2.0 RC1. Though I am confident I will be able to get the portal online, I was wondering if I could download a vBa CMPS 2.0 for vBulletin 3.5 already thereby requiring less haxorkit!

Which code modifications are required to make vBa CMPS 2.0 compatible with vBulletin 3.5?

Zachery
06-16-2005, 05:49 AM
No vBadvacned products work with vBulletin 3.5.0 at this time, porting them would require that you are a capable coder and are able to rewrite the code to work on 3.5
