My current host has old versions of both PHP and MySQL installed.
MySQL Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.16
PHP PHP 4.3.11

I am going to have them update MySQL to version 5

I remember reading somewhere here that PHP 5 was possibly a 'problem' for Brian.

What version of PHP would you recommend I have them install---(or am I safe and efficient with the versions I already have?)

I want to have this all done before I start uploading Vbulletin, cmps advanced, gallery (when I buy it) etc.-----or if they upgrade PHP and MySQL after I've installed will I be ok?

Thanks

Brian

Hopefully Zach will see this thread, as he's more up to date about the versions and such than I am. As far as I know though all of our products should work with PHP5. If there are any problems they should be very minimal and only requrie some simple changes.

I know alot of people have gotten vbulletin to run with php5 but I've had alot of wierd problems when we tried upgrading our ded box to it so I wouldn't recommend it myself - especially if you'd have to annoy your host to downgrade back to php4.

That was with vb though, didn't have any problems with the gallery though!

Neither php 4.3.11 or MySQL 4.0.16 are terribly out of date.

Personally I can only recomend 4.3.11 or MySQL 4.0.24 for the time being.

MySQL 4.1.X is still in infacny and it is seeing alot of issues like the early mysql 4.0.x did. I will be holding off abit longer

MySQL 5 is BARELY out of alpha and it has changed its password hashing proceedures again, I cannot recomend running MysQL 5.0.x on any system, product or developemnt.
