Hi,
i did a search with google "powered by..." and all site have the same stock look but the colors. Is it a hell of a work to create a "free" style (for Example like this site (http://www.mdr.de/ratgeber/)) or is vBA just very limited in this way.
Thank you!
Kind Regards

VBA can look like that, it just takes some time and knowledge. I am planning on changing the look of site when I have the time. I have seen some incredible sites that run vba

Thank you. I need to hire someone, bacause i can only spell PHP and html, nothing more. Im looking fpr vBA becaouse i need to tie the created content to the vB Board to allow the users the interact with the content.
Does it need a lot of time? 4 hours, 8 hours, 3 days?
Could you post some of the sites you seen?
Kind Regards

It is not that hard after u get some pointers.
I change the vba style to look like bluepearl instead of leaving it like a colour change. All that was done is I added my bluepearl Style code in adv_portal_module_shell or take any style an have it coded in your admin=>Styles & Templates=>Style Manager=>adv_portal_module_shell
then it would look like what u wanted. ;)
Same answer to question.

An experienced coder of vB template skins could make it look non vBa in a matter of minutes or hours.

15min. tops for experienced coder. :)
hehe funny you brought up the question. I am actually releasing a new version of my site again which is powered by vbadvanced, and so far it looks anything like the 3 column portals, I'll show a preview later on. Also if you want some more good examples of what vbadvanced could do, take a look at one of the sites www.cgtalk.ru homepage.

why not ask why all phpBB sites look the same? or all phpnuke sites? or all invision sites? or even all vBulletin sites?
because people don't take the time to change or grealy modify the default layout like some
http://www.usshomestarrunner.com can you tell what I am running?

vBa Homepage was the previous name for CMPS. It's old, and no longer supported.

In the forum I see that but this does not look like vba galery http://www.cgportfolio.ru/
as far as I know, that's vbGarage, you can find this hack at vbulletin.org, if it's not vbGarage, then I'm sure it could be achieved with vbGarage, just needs a little modification.

>> Re: Why do all vBA Sites look the same?
Zach, Brian: I think this is an excellent question to understand the basis of, because I think it's probably a very common mis-perception.
My first impression of vBadvanced was that it wasn't what I'd want to use. Not because I didn't like the default look, but because I didn't want it to be like everyone else's. And because I figured that if it were easy enough to modify and personalize people would be doing it already.
I just read through each screen in the vBa CMPS in Admin CP. Read, not just skimmed - I made a PDF out of each screen and took it to a quiet place to read each page :). It seems like it'd be very easy to personalize and modify as much as you'd like, especially with Version 2's 'adv_portal_module_shell' template. (Note, I'm not speaking from experience yet. That's this week's goal.)
The solution is simply better communication via examples on your main page of highly stylized vBadvanced implementations. Examples that show a range of what is possible. From basic no-customization example, to ones where it's much more difficult to tell it's driven from vBa.
Those examples would also help people get through the first 20% of the learning curve needed when you're looking at any new tool:
1) What can this do for me?
2) What is the scope of what it is best suited to do?
It's hard to communicate what all the users very early on the learning curve need to have explained when your head is in the way advanced stage constantly.
Please don't interpret this as a serious criticism. The work that you are doing and the solutions you have provided are spectacular.

It certainly took some work to make it work the way I had envisioned — and clearly CMPS addresses some of the things I kind of hacked and kluged together for site:
www.gothambaseball.com
I plan to upgrade when CMPS 2.0 goes to Gold Master (in part because I sense a lot of what I did will have to be reworked from scratch, or won't be needed with all the upgrades), although I probably will upgrade my gallery package before then, it went from RC4 to Gold, once the first issue of the magazine is out the door in 10 days.
Having researched all of this and worked with other content management systems, i think this one is a winner — and will continue to get better, which is why I chose vBulletin (yeah, CMPS sold at least one vBulletin license).
So Brian, keep up the good work.

anyone?
You have to be using 2.0 to have this template... are you running 2.0?
(Dangit, I came here for something totally different, saw this thread and had to dig up my old customised portal_shell...now I have forgotten why I was here in the first place.)

Kall,
Your main page on New Zealand Message boards look nice. Parts of your main page look like aria skin from vbstyles. Are you using the skin...it looks like your forum itself does not use it.
Thanks
Bingo! Nicely spotted. I have a license for the style for the domain but have chosen to use only the cat top and bottom images.
I found that the style itself caused problems when category/forum titles exceeded a certain limit, so went with my own Steel Blue style instead.
