37 Queries on your index page is a lot. You should try and scale back on them if you can.
You also have a lot of queries in your threads. In showthread.php comment out the parts for the journal, it adds a query for every user to see if they have a journal or not. Its only for the drop down box to show people they have a journal that they can go to but I find its not used that often.

Yeah, I have alot of hacks installed :p
I need to work on scaling down some, Thank you.
But, as far as looks, what do you think, compared to my original style?
I only get 25 queries, where are you getting 37

Page generated in 0.47079802 seconds (74.37% PHP - 25.63% MySQL) with 39 queries.
hmmm its grown lol, this is on your main site portal page.
Design Comments?
Portal Page: I personally like a little bit of a buffer on the sides so it doesn't look crammed up against the browser. Aside from that, a little more color and some more white space to break things up would be well to avoid that crammed feeling.
The rest seems okay but be sure the forums you have warrent the activity they are receving and if not, try to condense some.

Very interesting, this is what I get
Page generated in 0.38045597 seconds (76.14% PHP - 23.86% MySQL) with 25 queries
wierd
Actually I was looking at getting rid of the borders all together, trying something I've seen done on other sites, but it didn't look right.
I removed the padding though, cause some hate it and some love, but wanted somethign new. O well Worth a try ;)
What do you think of the colors on the forums index though? There's a little more there. If I can find someone to help me with the graphics on the portal, we could probably make it alot better. ;)
I liked your old site better. :(
Huh, Seriously, it was just the plain vBulletin Grey
Now, at least I am trying to stand out a little and make the site unique?
What dont you like?

I think I figured out the query problem on the cmps index.
Let me know what you think phoenixdown?
mholtum, I dont mind constructive critisim, I was just really confused by the comment. I couldn't tell if it was sarcasm, or if you were serious.

I like the custom logo in the header and the new brighter colors...... but I think there should be some spacing between the columns. At least for me my eyes don't settle on any particular spot to focus because the three columns seem to be one continus block.

I got about 19 queries on your index earlier but I checked again now and I am back at 32 but I guess it was refreshing cause it dropped back down to 19 after that.
19 is still a tad high, if its high volume. You may want to look into storing information in the vb datastore and updating it via vb or regular cron periodically.
(ill be gone till next week, good luck!)
Putting the query discussions aside, I think that this style is definetly better than the original one, especially the header. The only thing is that it looks a bit too simple and at the same time all crammed (sp?) up together. What I would recommend is that you add a little bit more spacing between your columns.
Another thing is that the style in the middle (content area) looks a bit too plain, although it serves it's purpose, I think it would look better if you add a lighter blue for either "tcat or thead" cause you have that dark blue background for both "thead, tcat" in your style. I am saying a lighter blue because looking at your header, you have two main blue parts, the one that you have right now for your category headers seems to match the darker blue area.
Also it would look nice if you change your link colors for each category/module to that orange that you have in the header.
Overall, good improvement from the original skin,
keep up the good work. :D

Thank you Sean,
I seperated it a little, changing it from a 0 to a 2 ;)
Also, I changed the tcat and the thead to orange to get opinions.
I actually like it, Thoughts?
BTW, I dont like flashy, thats why I didn't go with flash or a fancy style.
When techs get home from work, the last thing we want to see is alot of animation and special effects, except in our games of course :p
Simple is a good thing ;)
