Here is a challenge for all you professional coders and webmasters...

What I have going on is a browser problem. I use the Mac and run Safari as my main browser. After installing CMPS v2.0 I noticed that the "welcome block" wasn't and still isn't displaying correctly in Safari although it does display correctly in the dreaded M$ IE and in FireFox. The attachments below show the difference between the correctly displayed "block" and the incorrect version. Basically there is a bold "rule" showing up in Safari on the right side of the welcome block. No matter which side of the portal it's on that block and only that block displays incorrectly ---- but not in the other two before mentioned browsers. The correct displayed block is also attached and is directly below the welcome block in the portal. You can view the site here (http://www.blackreign.net/setup_index.php).

Here is the challenge...it seems to me that Safari is interpreting the code differently (and maybe more correctly) than IE and Firefox. Possibly it's picking up a difference in the code like maybe another column in the table that has no size formatting and is disregarded by IE and FireFox...don't know. Sound reasonable? The fact that all other blocks display correctly leads me to believe this.

Is it possible for one of the coders to compare the code of the blocks to see where the "Welcome Block" differs? I don't know enough about it to understand why a browser would interpret the coding differently but surely there is some code in that welcome block that Safari sees and the others don't.

I know you guys don't use the Mac or Safari as a general rule but the developers must surely test in all browsers, right? But comparing the code between different blocks should tell the story shouldn’t it?

Little things like this drive me crazy as I am sure they do for any coding pro or webmaster...that's why I’m asking for help. http://www.raiderforum.net/images/smiles/s34.gif

What do you think?

Anybody have any idea where to go with this?

Thanks.

About the best I could suggest would be to play around with the adv_portal_welcomeblock template and just remove little bits of code piece by piece until the line disappears. Then you should be able to figure it out by process of elimination.

Is it simply the welcomeblock.php file in the modules folder? :confused:

Admin CP => Style Manager => {select style}

Click the << >> button next to the style, then click the 'vBadvanced CMPS Templates' list to expand them and you will find the adv_portal_welcomeblock template listed there.

So just out of curiosity, did you ever figure it out?

So just out of curiosity, did you ever figure it out?No. This is definitely a Safari problem, however, and I've had a lot of people look at it. The problem only occurs in Safari. I suppose it could be a combination of the skin I am using and some incompatibility with Safari but nobody thinks it's a big enough problem to get involved.

Frankly the problem only occurs with my eXtremepixels skin...not with the default skin and others. So I suppect that may be part of the problem. That is the problem when only 3% of the people are on the Mac platform. Nobody wants to help or get involved. Bummer.

Thanks for asking Brain.

Brian....here is a little something I got from a friend who IMO really knows what he is talking about...
Okay, I've checked it out for several hours now and all I can find is that it's a display quirk in the kwww (codebase for Konqueror and Safari) code. Sorry, but after about six hours of tweaks it seems like it's just going to stay that way. I'll keep looking at it, but so far it seems like that's the way it is.So maybe that makes some sense to you but it's kind of over my head! Does that make any sense to YOU?

Yup... Basically what he's saying is that it's a bug with the browser and there's not really a good way to fix it.
