I'm a bit confused on the lingo for vBulletin/vbadvanced, when it comes to redesigning the look.

I just installed vBadvanced and now I want to give my site some eye candy but, not sure where to start.

My site.. http://www.orderoftheclaw.com - the typical basic look.

What I'd like to do, would be something like this.. http://wow.orderofchaos.com

What I don't understand.. Am I changing the templates of the modules to get a look like that? or do I need to create a whole new XML file? Or ???

When I do a search on customization tutorials, I'm not sure what to look for. Templates, styles, or skins? Or all the above? For me, I just want to be able to just change the look of the site, not necessary the structure.

Appreciate any help with this or, point in the right direction.

Thanks.

XMI,

Under normal circumstances there should never be a reason to directly modify the XML files directly.

To get started try this....

- Go into your Admin Control Panel (ACP) and choose Styles & Templates.

- Choose Style Manager

- You most likely only have one style listed. In the drop down box to the right of the default style choose "Add Child Style" and you'll be prompted with some options.

- For the "Title" either give it a unique name or use the default. For "Allow User Selection", that's a personal choice as to whether you want anybody besides you being able to look at your new style for now.

- Choose "Save"

- You should now be back at the Style Manager menu and you should see a new style listing with whatever Title you gave it. Go to the right of that style and click the "Go" button.

- From the page that comes up you'll be able to modify nearly all of the your new style's colors and basic settings.

- Experiment and have some fun! Just make sure you do your experiments with your new child style instead of the default parent style -- that way in case you make a mistake that you can't undo the default style is still out there.

Thanks KW802..

I'm working on the style now. I guess what's throwing me for a loop, though, is working with images. If you noticed in the website above, they used images for their modules and tables.

When looking through all the style options, I didn't see how you could assign/insert specific images. Which is why, I was wondering if you had to tweak the specific templates.
