Hi All
I read on here recently something that confused me slightly and I am hoping to get some clarification on it.
If I wanted to create a totally new and seperate module based on the existing modules, I thought I read that one can simply copy the existing module, giving it a new name, then use that one. So, say I wanted a new "News Archive" for posts in a different set of forumID's... would I simply copy the existing "News Archive" module, rename it, configure it to pick up posts from alternate forumID's and hey presto? Is that it!!!???
Also, can I then do this with other modules...??

With the news archive module you would also have to copy the news module since it has to use settings from both, and then just be sure to set the 'Parent' option to the new news module you copied.

Brian
I seem to be having a little trouble sorting this.
Here's what I did.
1 - opened up the news module (on my site this is called User Submitted News)
2 - selected copy > go from the first menu dropdown and called this News Reports
3 - selected News Reports as the Module Parent for this
Having done this I still don't see any posts appearing in the correct location from the correct forumID... any ideas?

Copy the news module, then copy the news archive module. Then just make sure that the copy of the news archive module has the copy of the news module selected as it's parent and that should be it.

Hmmm... still a weird issue here Brian
I did exactly as you said and do now indeed see the posts from the correct different forumID in the correct loaction... but... I also see the same number of posts from the different forumID added to the top of the existing news module location.
Note: I amended the permissions so that only I see the new news modules.... and this has been correctly passed through i.e. no-one else sees the new news module posts (1) in their correct location and (2) in their incorrect additional location...
you can log in and see with current account settings...
Any ideas...?

Are you trying to do this on themouthpiece.com? If so, I would suggest upgrading to 2.0.0 as this sounds like a bug that was present in RC1.

Righty oh Brian... that indeed did the trick thanks... but...
What I would like to do now is use a different layout for posts displayed in the new copied news module but I gather that it uses the same templates as the existing news module. So if I amend them, the threads shown on front oage for existing and new news modules will change...
What I am after is a conditional I can use in the news template that checks for the new news module, I can then create a new layout for those threads etc... does that make sense...?
So, how do I idnetify threads in this new news module pls...? Is there a conditional I can use to check for say the module name???
