Hey all
I know it has been mentioned before... but I'n too afraid to do this so I would really be grateful if someone could post the exact order and the steps I have to make in order to upgrade my VB forum from 3.0.7 to 3.0.8 without causing problems to VBadvanced ....
- I have VBA 1.0.1
http://www.electrowave.gr/index.php
- I also have the After Dark style from VBstyles.com and...
- I have applied some changes at the code of new.php and latesttopics.php in order for some hacks to function (sticky first post (news) - sticky latest topic : insrtuctions taken from the VBA forums)
would anyone be kind to

1: Upload the new vb files and run the upgrade script.
2: Re-apply the files edits to new.php and latesttopics.php so your hacks will function.
3: Re-run the install script for vba and choose install templates. Or this might be a good time to just upgrade to the latest version of CMPS.
If you upgrade just:
1: Upload all the new CMPS files.
2: Run the install script and choose upgrade.

Can I take this a step further?
I am paranoid of getting the site completely messed up.
Would it be possible to install 3.0.8, and lates VBA, load all the hacks, mods, etc.
Then repoint it to the existing data?

Thanx for the reply. I appreciate it :)
I've actually took the courage and done it all and nothing went wrong so far.
If I see anything wrong I will report it.
Thanx again
p.s. Now I'm considering upgrading to VBA 2

You lost me.
1. Complete new install of vB in a parallel directory.
2. Allow new set of DB creation.
3. Load mods, hacks, patches etc. in new installation.
4. Port DB data from old system to new system
5. Test, test, test, test, test, test, test. Then test.
6. Kill old system. Rename tables, rename path, repoint vB
Any major caveats?

1). Backup current database.
2). Restore database under a new db name.
3). Set the database to use in the config.php of your new vB files to the new database.
4). Upload new vB files to a test directory.
5). Run the upgrade script.
6). Re-apply hacks.
7). Test, test, test.
8). Upload files from your test directory over you existing vB files and run the upgrade script.
