How do i use modules?

I know this is very sad but i don't know how to use the modules all i know is that they are ther but i do not know were there is ^^' sorry to be a bother but if you could just help me out i would be very gratefull :)

Basically you use the modules to display different aspects of your site on the portal I have numerous different modules on my site.

I understand that but i do not know where i go to post news on the front page and make a poll on the front page and so on?

Edit your news and poll modules and select a forum(s) to pull your news posts and polls from.
