Any tutorials for restyling news module anywhere?

I'm wanting to do a few things to my news module such as pull down the headline into the main article. Is there a tutorial anywhere which shows how this can be done for a n00b or is it something I'll need to pay someone to do? Thanks.

Want to create module w/ php file

I'm working on a site where the owner wants to create a module with a non-vb php file which pulls info from another database.

When you go to site.com/file.php it comes up fine..

I've tried creating a template w/ his php code in it but that's bringing up a blank module.. er.. not showing anything of a module on his site.

He's running vbulletin 3.8.5 and vbadvanced 3.2.2

VBA intergration problem -wish-I don't know anymore

I give up. I had to remove integration of vba cmps in my forum because it causes problems with my mobile style. I read and tried the different fixes here in this forum, but nothing seems to work. I really wish that vba cmps had an option to show different pages in different styles and turn off pages for styles that don't need them. It would certainly increase the use of the product. Back to the drawing board for me...

Page layout not working properly

I'm attempting to create a column which crosses over for a leaderboard ad. I have it somewhat working but the width of the columns are off as is the overall design. Here's my code:

How do I change the title tag?

Hi Guys,

I noticed the default title tag for vBa Dynamics is whatever you put as the entry item name. For example I'm using this system for tutorial write-up's and therefore the title is "Tutorials". While that is great, it's not exactly SEO friendly. I would like for it to either say:

Tutorials - FPSDev

or

FPSDev Tutorials

Is there anyway to do this without changing the name of the tab that automatically displays in the vB Template?

Is it possible to turn off vbadvanced CMPS on one style while it is on on another style. VBA ruins my mobile style, but is great for my regular forum style.

How can I turn it off for one style and have it on in another style?

Is there any tutorials floating around or has anyone messed with that?

Path problems in Links overview

Hi there,

we have some trouble with the path in the overview of all links.
The "links/" is missing in "http://www.MYURL.net/browselinks.php?c=2" right before the "browselinks.php".

links/ is also missing in the popup menu under the navbar.

The navbar replacement is working fine: "http://www.MYURL.net/links/index.php"

- All settings are correct (server, path, ...)
- vba links version is "vBadvanced Links Directory v4.1.0 (vB 4.0)"
- vb version is "vBulletin v4.0.5"

Any idea on this issue?

Newsbit Footer Issues

Is anyone else having odd issues with the display of the newsbit footer section?

You can see this odd whitespace under the footer. I have tried to remove it but it doesn't go away.

I have been looking for a module for vBAdvanced That would display some basic shoutcast server info. Unable to find a decent working one I decided to write one myself.

So here is Shoutcast Server Info, a vBAdvanced CMPS module.

Tune in link
Request song link or thread
And playlist link or thread

Instructions
Download the attached zip file
Edit radio_stats.php and change the config to your shoutcast server info.
Upload radio_stats.php to your modules directory.
From your admincp - vba cmps
Add new module
PHP file
Title - call it what you want
Active - yes
File to include - radio_stats.php
Identifier - call it what you want
Select clean file output
Save and add to the page of your choice. Center works best but can be a side block to.

My vBa Dynamics Suggestions

Hi All,

These are my suggestions to help make this product that much better (at least for me and maybe some others):

An option to take the alphabetical links outside of an AJAX dropdown and placed above the listing of entries in a category.
Make the custom fields seem more integrated into the post. Right now it just floats above the main text, but seems very lost.
Add featured image option so that users can upload 1 main image that will act as a thumb for the entry.
Integrate the vBa Entries into the "What's New?" tab & the main search option.
Add peoples submissions to their profile as a new tab called whatever the name of the entry is. This way users looking at profiles can see exactly what others have posted and it promotes the vBa section more.

Various Bugs Discovered

Just wanted to make the vBa team aware of these bugs. I posted a previous topic that was removed, probably because of my outspoken dislike for the software, but these bugs are being posted not to discourage users from purchasing, but to make developers aware if they are not already. I would appreciate a response to let people know these bugs are going to be fixed:

I'm unable to apply a rating to entries. For some reason I select the star, hit apply but nothing happens. When I refresh the rating has been applied, but there is no star rating displayed in the entry.
In the reply postbit links to messengers for AIM, etc are displaying very wrong. It looks like the full path is being included in the absolute path and making the link go to a 404 error page.
I am not able to delete any replies to entries. If I check it off the moderation number remains 0 and I am unable to delete as it will tell me that no reply is selected.
When browsing categories the rating of the entry is not displayed. I have enabled the option but it is blank.

How do I display images inside entries?

When a user on my forum goes to submit what is called a "tutorial" on my forums, they use the image tag to submit images inline. However the tutorial shows them as links and not images. Is this a bug or a settings that needs to be enabled? I don't see any setting, so any direction would be great. Please don't delete my thread this time, this is a simple question.

IE7 users can't see entries

It has been reported on my site that some users who use IE7 can't see the content of an entry in Dynamics. They can see everything including posted replies, entry titles, the grey bar menu of Options and rating that is across above the entry but not the entry itself.

As a test I copied my Admin permissions across to registered users to test with some users and to see if it was a permissions issue but they still couldn't see the entry. I am using IE8 and Firefox so it works for me both as Admin and as a Registered User so I can only narrow it down to IE7 - I have the latest Dynamics and vb 4.0.5

I recently moved my Forums from mydomain.net/forums to mydomain.net. I rather use CMPS than a homepage- cause homepages are useless this day and age with such nicely intergrated CMPS's.

Now, it worked fine. I installed CMPS, and my themes we're messed up. I just deleted and reinstalled. I've checked cookies, url, all of that and made sure it's at mydomain.net/, not anything else.

It's changed everything of mine to mydomain.net/forums.

So images (except most of my themes since I redid those) are set to mydomain.net/forums.

How do I fix it?

Hi Guys,

I opened a small forum a day or so ago and basically the site is geared towards developers for first person shooters. Such games as Counter-Strike, TF2, etc and the community will help modders utilize each other as a resource.

I am using vBa CMPS and vBa Dynamics. I love these products, they fit my forum well and I have just finished doing some skinning to help the site look more polished. I would love some opinions on the layout and forum setup in general. Please let me know if anything is confusing. I will say I am a bit annoyed by some small vBa CMPS visual bugs, but I hope those will be corrected in later versions.

Removed: I decided to stick with DownloadsII as vBa Dynamics does not have the basic features I need to use it as a downloads system. Shame :(.

Multiple Instances - Upgrade

I have multiple instances.
One installed as Library, the installed as Bloopers.
Do I need a folder installed at dynamics too?

I updated all of the settings, but I can't get the links to show in the navbar, but the folders are there.
Also, there are many style issues with both instances.

Hi... we purchased vblinks some time ago and have just installed it in our new vb4 community. We just started to use it in ernest on 1st July 2010 and while it worked ok in testing it has now ceased to work. My techie tells me he thinks it is because our license has expired.

I didn't see anythning about a license when I purchased it so could you clarify if this is the case? And if it is does this mean it will cease to work and if so do you not send out an email reminder?

Why we noted it was not working is when I received an email telling me someone had posted a link and when I clicked on the link in the email to approve it I was told there was no link to verify.

For Example you have 20 articles in a category, when looking at all articles in the category they are split into two columns.

Example...

Article Preview 1 Article Preview 2

New PM problem

This is getting strange.

VB 4.0.4 or .5

CMPS 4.0 or .1

Another site, people are complaining that they get a new PM notification and when the try to view new PM it gives a blank page.

I had the site running vb 4.0.4 and CMPS 4.0

I updated it to vb 4.0.5 and CMPS 4.0.1 still same issue.

I disabled all mods and the only one that made it work when disabled was the CMPS?

Again this only affects new PM's you can read the old ones just fine, strange....

Welcome block not logging in - cookie issue

Hi,

I seem to be having a permissions / cookie issue with my site.

If I set cookies to be located at: / then the welcome block on the home screen works fine.

However, then the login information does not work for my forums located in the /forums directory

If I set cookies to be located at /forums/ then the welcome block doesn't work but the forums work fine.

What can I do to fix this?

I want to use the welcome block on my home page.

I tried the .htaccess suggestion you have on your website but that does not work for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The code $vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q] only see current directory and not the forumhome directional link or calls the same function as $vboptions[homeurl]. It seems to mirror $vboptions[homeurl] outside the 'forum' folder.

Integrating problems

I wanted to add a right column throughout my forum and thought that the integration feature would do the trick.

I followed the directions closely but the result was the integrated column appearing above my other content instead of being to the right of it.

When setting it up, I only created content in the right column and left the other two blank.

I assume I'm doing something wrong so wanted to ask if there might be some suggestions here.

Manage Attachment - no Browse Option

In Dynamics, when trying to use the attachment manager, I get no button to browse my computer to find an attachment. The asset manager works fine throughout the rest of the forum.

I have tested this in the default style so it is not a styling issue. Here is how it looks in my dynamics test installation:

What is going on and how do I fix it? I saw there was another post about this same issue, but there was no resolution to the problem. And this looks the same in IE as well as Fire Fox.

calendar module listing month twice

This ONLY happens on the Forum Index, if you go into a forum or thread it shows normally.

Http 406 error when editing cmps pages

I keep getting an http 406 error when I try do edit cmps pages in admincp,
and I cannot change settings. It is the only place in the whole admincp this
happens. I am using IE8, but I have the same problem in FF?

What might cause this?

Imported What's New Module to CMPS, URL problem

I imported this module to CMPS, but the URL is not working correctly. It's adding the catid to the end of the seo-friendly URL, which is breaking the link. Any ideas what I need to change to fix it? I'm sure it's probably just a setting somewhere.

Hello,

I am new to vBulletin & vBadvanced. I have been asked to help maintain our gaming clans website which is built on vBulletin.

Our front page has Left, Center and Right modules. The Left & Right modules have a maximum size limit of 175px. I am trying to add a TeamSpeak 3 viewer mod on the top right. I use java script generated from http://www.tsviewer.com. I get the mod to work, no problem. My problem is it makes the overall BB Code module too big. If I specify

in the module it limit the size of the text displayed with in the mod but not the overall mod box size. You can see what I mean by going to http://afksite.com/ Notice the TS Viewer overall box size is bigger than the Bc2 mod below it, while the TS data within the box is set to 175px. You can tell that by the scroll bars at the bottom of the mod.

I have tried multiple setting and I just can't get that mod box to keep to a minimum size of 175px. I even tried making a html file with the java script then specifying that file using the tag. What controls the overall size of that box. I see no setting for mod width in the vBa CMPS control panel.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Permissions for viewing Active Topics

Sorry the odd question.

I took the Recent Threads module and renamed it Active Topics. I'm not sure if it's possible, but I'd like unregistered/not logged in users to only see the thread listings, not the content on the vBA page.

So my main question is, from where does VBA's Active Topics module pull forum view permissions?

Some of the settings I'm using don't have an impact, so I'm assuming there's a priority/ranking of permission settings the module will adhere to. For instance, quick permissions doesn't seem to have an impact, perhaps because I have access masks turned on.

Integration issue for users on IE6 & 7

This is a strange issue. Some users are telling me that their display is all stuffed up on some of the pages of my site. I find that if I remove the integration on those pages everything is ok. The only common denominator I can find is that they are using either IE v6 or v7.

This is what they are seeing:
1. Replying to a thread - the reply box is to the right of the screen so the user has to scroll across to find it...scroll further again to see the CMPS right column that has been integrated with the page:

The right column (as seen in screen shot 2 above) contains just images but if I remove it (i.e. remove the integration) both problems are fixed and the pages are displayed as they should.

But that is one link, I can't go back to the portal with the breadcrump.

I see that it is putting the dynamics folder in the path for the smilies... Where can I change that? I went into style vars, but they don't have an imgdir for smilies that I see...

a time ago I made a testportal for my forum in ***.nl/forum/cmps_index.php

It worked without any problems and I wanted to make it officialy online.
So I copied te cmps_index.php to **.nl/cmps_index.php and now the backgroundcolor in my navbar disappeard?

The other modules and pages seems to work good.

Has anyone an idea what the problem can be?

Module not showing after install of new style

I installed a custom module (the show blogs module). It showed up on existing styles (it gave me the chance to select which ones I wanted).

I then installed a new style. That particular module does not show up anywhere and I do not know where to make this change.

How do i make it visible on the newly installed style(s)?

When I try to delete any links which are now no longer serving sites whether I choose to soft delete of physically delete I get the following message "You did not choose any valid Links." the links have been highlighted much the same way as you would delete a post.

Lost My Customized Header with Navbar

Brian;

Just wondering if you could help out. I just upgrade from vB 4.2 to 4.5. The installation process went fine with no noticeable issues. But now when I go to my forum - the original header that had all my vBadvanced links are not there and there is just a links to the forum only. I think this might have something to do with the styles that might not have reverted back to my customized, or perhaps something else within the styles in the CP admin that I need to adjust. Could you kindly advise.

Issue with Phrase

I think I have found a bug...

In my Style Manager the primary instance of the Dynamics template group just says "Templates".

In the vbadyna_install_phrases.php file it refers to:

But the plugin "Template Grouping" for Dynamics says:

It seems the plugin code left the "_adv_dyna" off...not sure about others but it did in my install

How do I uninstall vba dynamics w/o admincp?

I had vba dynamics 1.x installed years ago, but never really used it and therefore, forgot about it.

I upgraded to vb 4.0.5 today. I updated to vbacmps 4.0.01 today. vba wasn't working quit right I have a thread about it in the appropriate forum).

I realized that the conflict may be the outdated vba dynamics. So via the Product Manager (in admincp), I attempted to uninstall. When I did, the site crashed. I no longer could do anything. I edited the config.php file to disable all plugins. That got me back into the admincp.

However, I still cannot completely remove vba dynamics. This is the error message I get via email:

Custom Install of Dynamics w/ RSS Importer

It works quite well and even imports the images that come along with the feed. There's a couple things that could be cleaned up in the templates, but otherwise I think it looks pretty good. What do you think?

Using Dynamics as a product listing engine

I was wondering if anyone has used Dynamics as a product listing tool? If so I'd like to see how you implemented it.

One thing that is missing from Dynamics that I would like to see is a way for members to choose items in dynamics, the products in this case, as profile fields.

For example, you have a list of products that are entered into Dynamics complete with product pictures, specification fields, prices, etc. The member is then able to choose the product they own from a customizable profile field. Each category in Dynamics could be assigned a separate profile field. That field is then displayed in their profile and in postbit, which then links to the product page.

What do you think?

Multiple category links don't show on Search

Realized that if a link is submitted to multiple categories, it does not show up when a search is made within that category. The link only shows up for its PRIMARY category. Kinda pointless for multiple cats if it doesn't show up for Search.

Is it possible to add multiple vBadvanced CMPS portals to a single vBulletin installation? For example on a page about roleplaying games, mini portals for individual campaigns (on separate subdomaons)?

(I use the standard vBulletin CMS as my home page, would use vBadvanced CMPS for these mini-portals only)

Site Navigation Not updating

Post upgrade to vb 4.0.3 and vba cmps 4.0, my "Site Navigation" box is no longer working properly. It displays, but does not reflect edits made to it via the edit modules box. The cmps seems to be ignoring what is in the "Edit Modules" page and is pulling the config from somewhere else.

The cmps is also referencing links with /forums too. So a link that used to be www.rangeburlington.ca/page2.html is now www.rangeburlington.ca/forums/page2.html. I had to move the html files to the forums directory to restore functionality.

Any ideas?

Problem with very long scrollbar - problem with vba?

Dear all,

I have upgraded this weekend my forum to vb4.
I have a serious issue. When i look at a thread, i have a very long scrollbar (unlimited lenght!).

Some things to note:
- shows in IE7, IE8 (not firefox)
- appears only on showthread
- appears only to logged in users ! (demoaccount: test pasword: test1 )
(for guests the scrollbar is there, but not as long)
- vbadvanced in integrated in my forum

i have already tried to disable product by product and it only dissappears when disabling vbadvanced.

I would really appreciate if somebody could assist me in this.

As it says on the install guide before I install is change the permission to chmod to 777, it did not work, it had a 505 Error. So i changed it back and got access again...

Okay so after successfully installing my CMPS to the root directory, and all the required tables installed. I went to check out the root and CMPS and it did not show! :(

I changed the file cmps_index.php to index.php, and still nothing, so I changed the file permission to chmod to 777, STILL NOTHING, I changed it back to default and now I'm stuck. The vBa CMPS is showing and oepning fine in the ACP, however, the index will not open.

How do I add a 'welcome' block?

For me the built in 'welcome' block lets users login and shows the avatar, rep, and PM info for logged in users... I just want a box where I can type a welcome message like at this forum: http://www.askmy2cents.com/ and many others... I don't get what I'm missing... I edited my welcome extended template to add a message but I know that's not the 'right' way, for one it can't be collapsed without losing the valuable info for logged in users, and in my example their 'welcome' box is clearly separate from the 'log in' box. I looked if a custom welcome box was an add-on but didn't see any- but like every vbadvanced page I've seen seems to have this?
