Thread: Countdown Module

    Talking Countdown Module

    This should work no problem for all versions of vb and vba. This WILL work, if you follow these instructions:

    Download the zip to your PC and extract.

    1. Upload 'countdown.js' to your /forums/clientscript folder.

    2. Log into your admincp=>VBA CMPS=>Download/Upload Module
    Upload the module.

    3. Next, YOU MUST EDIT adv_portal_count template in two places:

    a. Edit the date and USA Eastern Time you want to count down to here-
    Code:
    TargetDate = "9/11/2006 10:15 PM UTC-0500";
    b. Next, the last line needs to be edited to point to the script--Example--
    Code:
    <script language="JavaScript" src="http://www.yourdomain.com/forums/clientscript/countdown.js"></script></td></tr>
    Optional edit for an image above the countdown timer:
    Find:
    Code:
    <td class="$bgclass"><div align="center">
    Add above adding the image name and dimensions:
    Code:
    <td class="thead"><div align="center"><img src="XXXXX" width="XXX" height="XX"></div></td>
      </tr>
    Optional edit to change the font color from black:
    Find:
    Code:
    CountActive = true;
    Add above with your color name (Only 16 color names are supported by the W3C HTML 4.0 standard (aqua, black, blue, fuchsia, gray, green, lime, maroon, navy, olive, purple, red, silver, teal, white, and yellow):
    Code:
    ForeColor = "Red";

    The thumbnail shows the image above. You can check it out in action (when the module is active) on my site at glorifythepast.com

    Enjoy!

    Edit: Original .js file found here.

    I tried running this on VB 3.6 and CMPS 2.2 and I get the box, but no counter.

    It doesn't depend on vb at all. Do you have the correct paths to the countdown.js in your adv_portal_count?

    If you do not, you will get the box and no timer.

    You may want to put the full URL to the .js including the http:

    I think I do. My last line looks like this:

    <script language="JavaScript" src="/home/urlname/public_html/forumname/clientscript/countdown.js"></script></td></tr>
    Before I edited the last line, it did not show up at all.

    Edit: I shortened the path and it now works. One problem. It now says there are 5247 days until my event, which is 8/31/2006. Could this be caused my the server date/time?

    Thanks. I got that part working, but the number of days until "kickoff" is way off.

    My target date looks like this:

    TargetDate = "8/31/2006 10:15 PM UTC-0500";

    Remember, that is Eastern Time. What time is it showing?

    My server is is displaying the current time at GMT -2, which is 5:32 PM Eastern Time. I changed the target date a few times to se what would happen and the countdown does not change. My countdown says there are 5247 days, 14 hours and 23 seconds - and counting.

    There is a default date in there that says if you didn't select a date, it will point the counter to countdown to 12/31/2020 5:00 AM.

    Post the code to your adv_portal_count

    Thanks for the help.

    One last question. Where do I load the image path? Is it directly after this line:

    <td class="$bgclass"><div align="center">

    Well I'm using vB 3.6.2 and CMPS 2.2.0 and I installed the module exactly as you instructed and the module isn't appearing at all. Any idea whats wrong? The module shows in the admincp but not on the home page. I checked that the module is 'active' and the templates have been changed just as you said. I have triple checked the forum link in the template as well but still the module does not show...

    Thanks for any help you can provide!

    Make sure you have the correct paths to the js file. Otherwise--it won't show.

    I just installed it on 3.6.2. The only problem I'm having with with the image option. It only works if I link it off site. Won't work internally no matter what I try.

    I'm pretty sure the path to the js file was correct, however I did notice that when I chose to upload the module file it said that it was not a module file
