Thread: [Module] [4.0.x] Upcoming Events - Standalone version

  1. #1

Default [Module] [4.0.x] Upcoming Events - Standalone version

This is an update of the many different versions of this module for vb3.x and vBa 3.x and will only operate with vBulletin 4.x

    Upcoming Events
Critical controls done via module ACP including
    • Specifying which calendar to use
    • Whether to display Admin-defined Holidays
    • Whether to display Custom Defined fields (new)
    • Whether to display the description of the event (new)
    • Number of days look-ahead for event display
    • Whether a "No events" message should be displayed when no events are found within the specified time frame (updated)
    • Display grouping (Event or Days)
    • Limit the number of events or days displayed
    • Allows setting the date format independently from the vBulletin format (new)
    • Allows defining the leading character to use separate from that used by vBa (new)

As previously, the way the dates are displayed has been kept to only show a start and end date instead of multiple dates when dealing with recurring or ranged events. Single date events will only have that date shown.

The Upcoming Events section makes use of 2 new templates; adv_portal_ue_mastertemplate and adv_portal_ue_singleevent. All phrases are now controlled by the module instead of embedded in the templates.

The only real limitation is that the number of days specified for the upcoming events will be limited to the number specified for the Forum Home Page Display as the databuild routine references that variable.

To upgrade it will be necessary to delete the current version of the module and install this new version.

    NOTES:

To display holidays it is necessary to modify the CMPS index.php file by adding the portion in red. If you already have phrasegroups listed then simply add it to them.
    Code:
    $phrasegroups = array('holiday');
To display all calendars in a single module similar to the way events display on the Forum Home page use the "Simple" calendar.

    Installation:
    1. Download the attached xml file
    2. Navigate to ACP -> vBa CMPS -> Download/Upload Module
    3. Under Main Options select the xml file just downloaded
    4. Set the Active status and the Style where the templates should be loaded
    5. Set the usergroup permissions
    6. Click Submit
    7. Navigate to the newly installed module and set the configuration options

Let me know how it works. I've checked it on my test forum and it seems to be working OK.

So far everything looks a-okay, still testing for bugs
Vbadvanced has a few issues still so as soon as RC hits I'll probably go live.

I've installed this module and it doesn't seem to be parsing bb code properly. The text in the module is showing the BB code tags for the text instead of formatted text.

Initialize BB Code Parser is set to yes.

Basically, you just need to locate where the BB code conversion happens in any of the vb php files and copy that into the data section. As a start it would look a bit like this but with all the options needing to be specified and a call to the correct function made.

I have not as yet. Since I won't be moving to VB4 any time soon I'm in no rush to do so.

Is there a way to limit the number of characters in the event descriptions shown? My upcoming events block is about a mile long.

    Thanks!

Either toggle not to show details or put a break <br> so that it goes to another line...

    That is what I did...

Since they are visible on the forum I would guess that it's either a permissions issue or something else pretty minor. Check the CMPS permissions for the module first to make sure guests can view events. Then double check to make sure your look-ahead limits are the same for both the module and the forum.

Also, does it work if you select a specific calendar?

Hi - created new Calendar, added events and can see the events in the Calendar view, but the module on the CMPS home page tells me "There are no events scheduled within the next 60 days." I checked permissions, etc. as per this thread.

    Where else could/should I look?

    Thanks!

A link will help as well if possible.

Make sure that both the main vb calendar setting and the module setting are both at 60 days. Also test with an event that is only a few days away. If things still don't show up then it almost has to be a calendar permission issue. Check to see if it works when logged in as an admin vs. regular vs. guest.

I get this error when I installed the module on my test site,
    Code:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare groupbyevent() (previously declared in /home/fionahos/public_html/forum/forum.php:315) in /home/fionahos/public_html/forum/modules/upcomingevents.php on line 199
