    Default Make the 'message' field of newentry.php optional

    Good day, I'm looking to change the fields when I submit a new entry (newentry.php). Modifying my custom fields is pretty easy and there's an obvious control panel option to do so. However, there are a couple of default fields that I can't find any way to modify.

    In this particular case, one of the default fields is 'message', and it's a required field. I would like to make this field optional instead. How do I go about this?

    I'm sorry, but I'm not sure if there's going to be an easy way to make the message an optional field, short of going through the files and removing any error messages/checks for the message length.

    Good to know at least, so I don't keep banging my head on it trying to figure it out. Thank you, Brian.

    Actaully, it may not be as hard as I thought... I was just doing some work on a site where I had apparently installed a plugin before that can do the job. If you'll add a new plugin with the following values then that *should* be all that's needed.

    Product: vBa Dynamics
    Hook Location: vba_dyna_functions_saveentry_errors
    Title: Customization - Message Field is Optional
    Execution Order: 5
    Plugin PHP Code:
    PHP Code:
    if ($errorhighlight['message'])
    {

    $errorhighlight['message'] = false;

    $msg_error array_search(addslashes(fetch_error('requiredfieldmissing'$vbphrase['message'])), $errors);

        unset(
    $errors[$msg_error]);

    Active: Yes

    It still shows up as a required field with an asterisk next to it on a new entry. I gave it a try and it still requires the message.

    I can see from your code that it should basically make the system not kick an error message back if there's nothing in the message field. I'll poke around with it and see if I can get it to work. Thanks very much, Brian.
