Default vbadvanced links in site root where as forum is in siteroot/forum/

I have a problem with imgdir stylevars. I am reluctant to go into each style of which I have many, and write full urls such as http://site.com/forum/images/buttons for example so that the styles in site.com/links reflects the correct vbulletin styles from site.com/forum/

As a workaround, I tried to symlink /forum/images/ into /links and it seemed to have worked for a minute, I might have an issue with cache.

Is there a better way to display vbulletin styles when the forum directory is not prior to the links directory or just that it is as described above?

    Thanks in advance,
    no pun intended
