Default is there a way to use a different style with the index page?

my question concerns cmps_index - my forums have two styles for one skin. for the forums i use more of a condensed style where everything in the skin is centered, but i also have an expanded option where everything fills the screen. (forums would be tren_z skin, while there's a second option called tren_z X which is a more expanded version of the same skin) i was wondering if there was a way to keep my forums themselves condensed, using the tren_z style itself and use the cmps_index as the expanded version? cmps_index looks so much better expanded rather than condensed, but the forums look better condensed rather than expanded.

also, since it looks like nobody's posted in the "how do i..." forum for a year, i'll ask this here too:

i have a temporary splash page that links to my forums while i'm still trying to figure out if i want to use the cmps_index page or not, and in the mean time, i want my news threads to show up on that splash page that's not affiliated with vbulletin or vbadvanced. how would i go about doing this? keep in mind i'm really new at vbadvanced so i'll need a walkthrough.
