I think this should be fairly simple but I'm just trying to figure out how to do it.
We've just moved from a phpnuke type site where we had different news "topics" that had a different image associated with them. We're now trying to get VBA to do something similar. I think the simplest way to create these different topics would be to have different sub-forums for each topic: News Forum News Subforum 1 - News News Subforum 2 - Reviews News Subforum 3 - Previews We would then set the news module to display the news from the news forum but what we'd like to do is have a small thumbnail display depending on the forum the news was posted in. If it was in the Reviews forum then on our front page in the news module at the start of the article it'd display an inline Reviews image and so on. Like I said, I don't think this should be that difficult but we have several things to consider. Any user can submit news to our forums which is then approved by our staff. They should be able to submit images in their articles either using the bbcode img tags or the attachements mod. These images aren't the images we want to be displayed on our front page at the very start of the article, what we want is just a single image to identify the topic so this is really a pre-set "static" image that we need to define for each forum. If anyone could help or needs me to try to explain better then please say

I've now seen that there's maybe a simpler way to do this while keeping all the news in the same forum and that's using the Post Icons and the mod that allows you to filter by them.
What I need to figure out now is how to display a different image on the front page news module for each article depending on which Post Icon it was set with. We can't use the actual post icon itself as that image would be far too small but I think this shouldn't be that complicated now. |

You can make your post icon whatever size. Maybe create a bar type image so it will be longer and narrower.
You can also move where the icon is displayed so it would be similar to phpnuke. I'm in the same boat and just decided to go with smaller icons when I switched from nuke. I'm thinking of using long narrow images. You could also move them and use a bigger image but I haven't tried that yet. here is what I did so far, I literally switched from nuke Xmas day: www.fpscops.com Last edited by ProGaming; 12-30-2006 at 03:54 PM. |

Yeah, what I'm thinking we want at the minute is the normal small tags for the icons that display next to the thread titles in the forums themselves but then we want a large image (or like you, I was thinking a long bar) to be displayed at the start of the story itself (and hence on the front page).
The only problem is having the two different types of image, the post icons themselves in the forums but then the larger image on our front page. |
