I am looking at switching to vBadvanced CMPS very soon but as I don't quite have my development test site up and running I was curious how it is decided which forum threads make it to the frontpage?
I know one of the options is going to be to make an entire forum section what appears on the frontpage, but I was hoping that I would be able to make a thread in any of our forum sections and do something similar to 'make this appear on the cmps'. Is that possible or is there something similar? |

From the product page:
Included Modules: ... * Latest Topics Show the latest threads started in your forum. Additional options to set the number of threads to display, pick specific threads or forums to pull threads from, show a preview of the first post, ratings, icons, last post info, and more. ... You'd then just simply "Copy" the module, give it a different name, and then select the specific thread to show in the new module. |

Sorry I think you misunderstood slightly, although that is also a great feature. Currently I have to edit one of our PHP files and manually exclude any forums which is a pain.
I mean't threads that would be chosen as news articles. |

Well, sorry, I think you mis-explained slightly.
You never specified which module, but "forum threads" sure sounds like you wanted topics to me. Anyway.. You can do the exact same thing for the News module that you can for the Recent Threads module. Edit Modules -> News -> News Options -> News Forums - Lets you choose what forums. Edit Modules -> News -> News Options -> News Threads - Lets you choose specific threads. Last edited by jw0ollard; 11-23-2007 at 08:56 AM. |

I don't have it installed yet, I was just checking out some of the features on the various demos I can see.
Basically I intend to archive all our old news posts into one forum and have them appear as news articles. I then want any new news articles to be able to be posted into any of our forum sections and then somehow flagged to appear as a news article. If that isn't how it works I apologise, but it would have been cool. Looking forward to playing it with it but also trying to learn about some of the features before I can! |

Sorry, when you talked about editing the PHP files, I just assumed you meant the vBa files, and ended up forgetting that you said you don't have vBa yet.
![]() The way you describe is exactly how vBa's News module works. Have you checked out the Admin Demo? There are ( ? ) -> help tips next to almost all of the settings that describe them better. |

Well I finally got it installed on a development site and am learning my way around.
Currently have two forums thats I am pulling news from which is great, but I am not totally sure if thats how I want it to be done when I migrate over but certainly could be used to archive all the old news posts and perhaps even the comments if we are feeling adventurous! What I am hoping will be possible is I actually start a new thread on the forums and am able to select a box that says something like "put this on the frontpage" regardless of what section it is in. Has anything like this ever been developed? |

There is this thread discussing a modification that will allow you to do that with custom post icons.

Sounds interesting, may even be able to do it with prefixes in 3.7
