Default VBAdvanced a possibility?

Hey all, new here. We've been using PHPCOW as our news publishing/Content Management system for a year now.......but are not happy with it at all (they use DEVEDIT wizzywig editor, and its a mess). Looking at our site, do you think multi paged articles with several images is possible with VBA?

No need to look at your site to know the possibilities of vBa. Look at my site, www.thefloorpro.com -- except for the forums, vB Gallery and vB GoogleMap ME, the entire site is built with vBa.

no offense, but mine's just a tad more involved than yours.

Whether your site is "more involved" than mine or not is irrelevant. It's not a contest. vBadvanced would work just as well on your site as it does on mine -- that's my opinion.

I answered your question. If you have a secret question, I wouldn't know. You will have to ask it. No one here wants to play guessing games. Be specific. I thought my answer spoke directly to your only question. There's no reason vBa can't do multi-page articles with as many pictures as you want.

Look, I'm not trying to bash your site....but without even looking at my site how can you comment? You aren't answering my questions at all.....can VBA suport multipaged articles with integrated images? Can VBA support flash ads, etc?
I could care less about a "contest" and think you are way off base.....I'm just trying to find a good solution for what I need, and want to know if VBA might support it.

Come on guys/gals, let's place nice.

Capper5016: The best way of thinking of vBa CMPS is as a foundation building block rather than a complete structure. It provides for some basic functionality out of the box but it's real strength comes into play when people start taking advantage of it's tight integration with vB and it's flexible module system. A person running vBa CMPS could opt for a simple approach or they could do some really complex & amazing things with it. From looking at your site last night, the best thing I could recommend is to really start with detailed list of what any replacement to PHP Cow "must have" and post it for everybody to take a look at. In the end a combination of vBa CMPS with some other packages (eg: GARS for the article system perhaps) will be the answer or, in all honesty, a different package might be better suited for your particular needs.

eJM: Capper is running a dedicated news system that supports categorization of news items/articles. It's a pretty complex system but until a detailed list of 'must have' features is seen I'm not sure that I personally could recommend vBa CMPS or an alternative. BTW: Nice Christmas Tree.

I neither suggested you were bashing my site, nor assumed you were. And I DID look at your site, I merely said one didn't have to.

I did. You asked one question. I answered it. Say what you mean, mean what you say.

The average person wouldn't know that by "just looking." I relayed my experiences with CMPS and answered the question asked. I don't read minds.

Thank you. It took all day to hang them tiny little lights just right. And the tinsel -- fahgedaboutit.

That's why he mentioned he's using PHPCow in his first post.

Must've been a pain finding a tiny little axe that size as well.

KW802.....Thank You for the help.....most importantly we're looking for something to replace PHPCOW as our news publishing software (too many problems with the editor and font tags). If I can find something thats fairly easy to navigate, easy to write articles with, allows multipaged articles wirth several images........then I'm sold. All I asked, was if someone could look at what we have, and its functionality, maybe they could tell me if VBA was a decent option......
I would be willing to install it on my server, and maybe test with it, but my concern is messing up my other server apps.

If you are looking for a quick solution then VBA is not for you if you want it to work the way your current system does. VBA out of the box is very simple and as KW said you will need to do alot of thinking out of the box but it can be manipulated to work anyway you want.

Capper5016 - The CMPS currently does not support multi-paged news articles, so if that's a "must have", the CMPS is probably not going to be a good solution for you. Although, you may want to check the hacks forum to see if there are any hacks that allow for multi-paged news.
As for installing it to test, that shouldn't be a problem. The only thing in vB that it really modifies is the image paths. So unless you have some other programs that are dependant on vB's image paths and will not work with a full path, then there won't be any problems.

Thanks guys, exactly the answers I was looking for.
I'm still learning VB, and think trying to "think outside the box" at this point would probably just cause a stroke or for my head to explode. I'll check out the mods pages and see what they think. Multipaged articles are something we have to have.....thanks again
