Greetings, vBadvanced devs!
First of all, allow me to thank you for your work on vBadvanced CMPS - one of the best and easiest to use CMS around! I'd like to make a request that was already submitted by many other people before. But since there weren't any reaction on it from vBa staff before, i decided to make another try myself. Although vBa CMS is very powerful and easy to use it lacks one feature that make many potential users turn to commercial CMS products. This feature is news pagination in News Module. I'll try to make absolutely clear, how does it usually work: instead of limiting number of news could be shown in news block, it can show all news, dividing them by pages, showing configured amount of news per page. Those pages are numbered, for user could jump to wanted page number easily, links to those pages are shown at the top/bottom of news block, like this: ![]() I understand that this is huge amount of work, and also You have higher priority to develop and support other - commercial - products. That's why i'd like to suggest to transfer a donation to your PayPal account (there's no button, btw) if you're going to develop this feature. I'm pretty sure that others will join the donation offer, so in the end everybody will be pleased ![]() I may humbly suggest a donation of $30 Minor additions There's also another request for News Module: to sort news by the date they were actually added to news (not the date thread was created or the date of last post). As far as i understand, the easiest way to implement it would be using idea of Mark Thread as News, and sorting news by date thread was changed (because when you changing icon in thread name it's considered edited)... I hope i haven't offended You with my donation offer, and i'm humbly and patiently waiting for Your answer... |

Better use Drupal with vbDrupal fork...
But for my needs vBa CMS is the most suitable option... It would be nice to see any feedback from the devs: i hope we've done nothing wrong for them to ignore us completely. Last edited by SecTa; 01-09-2008 at 08:58 PM. |

I hate to tease you guys but thought it would be owrthy of a post...
If I had more free-time, I'd be more than happy to take your "donations" and write it but the "day job" is a little consuming at the moment.I am sure (and why I am even posting) there are others that are very capable of writing something like this, maybe it just needs to be posted as a "Request for custom module". I personally do not see the real use of some of the requested features (not just this thread) but I suppose that's why I don't have it already!! |

Sorry, but we do not always reply to the suggestions since it's not usually possible to know which ones we will be able to include in a future release. We do read every one though and try to include them when we can if they are plausable and it seems like they would be beneficial to enough customers to make it worth the time to code them.

How do we know if a requested feature is likely or not ?
At some point I will have more time to look at the news module (for my own customizations) and making a modification like "paging" will probably be part of what I'll need to do, but.... If it's going to be in a "near future" version, I would much prefer that it was written by one of the "experts" who are vastly more familiar with vB/vBa. |

Brian, thanks for your response.
I really hope that you'll consider my request for implementation. I know, i could find someone to make a custom work, but wanted this feature to be properly coded and supported... But if someone will code it for me, may there be an option that i'll pass you the code to help the feature to be implemented in future versions?

An answer for what? As I said in post #8, we do not usually reply to requests since often times there is not a way to know if it will be able to be included in the next version or not until it's actually coded in.

Brian instead of being a bit of an ass about the whole thing why dont you ease peoples minds and at least tell them if it is a feature that you've considered, worked on, are working on, or have never attempted?
Id pay somebody to code this to be honest. Either that or leave vbCMS alone totally once I upgrade to vb3.7 stable. |

I understand his point of view which is if he tells people the feature is being considered or being worked on then he has to deal with people either wanting to know if its going to make it into VBA someday; or people wanting to know which version it will be put into; or the third which is people wanting to know if hes still considering it or not... If he gave a clear answer and was unable get it into the version he said then people would be all over him about it & would obviously not be happy.. He knows that theres at least a small percentage of people want it... That the point of a Feedback & Suggestions forum. Just keep in mind, this isn't the only suggestion Brian's received.. |
