Default Accessing external database

Hi all,

I'm trying to develop a custom node for the vbadvanced portal. I need to access data from an external database.

One solution could be to use PDO or any other database classes, but I'm sure it exists something more vbulletin-like than PDO. Isn't it possible to use directly vbulletin database classes ? (and how?) Does anyone have code samples ?

thanks.
