Getting new post count for one forum?

Ok I have searched with no luck, so here goes.

I am setting up a new module and I need it to count new posts from one forum since the users last visit. This way my recruitment officer will be able to see that there is either one or more new applications without having to go through all the new posts. I currently have it set up to search just that forum for new posts if he clicks on the "New Applications" link in the module, but I would like it to display a count if there is any. Similar to.....

New Applications: 6

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, but there's not anything in the default CMPS features that's going to help with that.
