Default vBa Links Directory v4.0 Beta 1 Now Available!

vBadvanced Links Directory v4.0.0 Beta 1 for vBulletin v4.0 has been released and is now available in the Members' Area here for current license holders. This is a BETA release, so if you are not fully comfortable with backing up and restoring your forums database, we recommend waiting until vBadvanced Links Directory 4.0.0 RC1 is released before you upgrade. Although there are no known issues at this time, Beta 1 has only been tested on a few sites and therefore is not recommended for production sites yet.

Important Notes:
  • This is beta software! Before upgrading, be sure to backup your database so you can revert to your backup if there are problems.
  • It is *highly* recommended that you upgrade a test site using a recent backup of the database for your live site before upgrading your live site.

Upgrading
To upgrade to vBadvanced Links Directory v4.0, first upgrade your vBulletin forums to the latest release of vBulletin 4.0. Once you've upgraded vBulletin, the Links Directory upgrade instructions are the same as usual and may be found in the readme

Problems or Questions?
If you have any problems or questions regarding the new release, please post them in the new vBadvanced Links Directory v4.0 forums.

Excellent! Looks like I'll be snowed in Saturday so this will make for a nice 'test' weekend.

Here's a link to a quasi-public site that I use for testing:

http://www.lowerpottsgrove.com/links/index.php

It's vB 4.0.1 with vBa Links 4.0.0 B1 & vBa CMPS B1 using the stock vB4 style.

If we did not have vba Links I would use Drupal for some new sites I plan (it is costly now with multiple vbulletin licences), but vba Links makes me no choice: I have to use vbulletin on new sites such that I can use vba links

Excellent to see this released, I will renew my license for this as soon as I see vba dynamics which is the most integral part of my site.

Hey Brian,

I tried upgrading to vB4 before I knew I would run into problems with older products, my whole site crashed, I restored a backup copy and am trying to proceed with caution.

At this point I've uninstalled dyna and the cmps, but want to keep the links directory to use with 4.0. I'm just unsure how to uprade, without getting conflicts from the old links directory.

According to Carey Crew:
Quote:
There is NO vBa product available yet for vBulletin version 4 so the script is not going to work, ALL products/addons not compatible with V4 should be removed prior to install/upgrade.
I understand that the new links directory IS compatible with 4.0, however I'm confused about the upgrade procedure. You say to upgrade to 4.0 FIRST, then upgrade the links directory. Do I need to uninstall the OLD links directory FIRST, (prior to upgrading vB)? Or will it NOT cause any conflicts with the vB upgrade? I don't want to lose all my Links directory data, so what should I do? Should I leave the old links directory installed, but simply disable it prior to the upgrade to vB 4?

Please advise!

I'd really like to move forward with this tonight, if at all possible.

It has been a much harder upgrade than I expected.

Thanks!
Jeff

Jeff,

You do not want to uninstall ever because then you would lose all of your existing data.

The quick & painless way would be...

- Disable the vBa Links in the Product Manager

- Upgrade your test site to vB 4.0.1 or above.

- Upgrade vBa Links to the vB4 compatible beta.

- Re-enable vBa Links in the Product Manager.
