Default New Post On Welcome Module

Hi there, alright I know this has been an issue others have had as well, however, it does not appear to ever have received a resolution.

When visiting my CMPS index page it shows me lets say 5 new post, however, when clicked this error is received:

Sorry, there are no new threads to view.

You may search for threads updated during the previous 24 hours, here.
I am using the 'Database (no automatic forum marking)' thread / forum read marking type.

Thank you in advance for a fix

So I guess 4 days later and 24 views and not a single response from the developer I should assume it is nothing that can or will be fixed and drop it.

[XR, I split your last post above to this thread.]

I'll take a look to see if I can spot anything. I'm sure as you can tell from the announcement on the front of the of the site and the various threads that Brian has been a tad busy lately and most likely missed this thread.

I completely understand busy...really I do, however, I brought this up weeks ago.

Anyhow, I understand how things are, so lets move on...how do I get this fixed? I really think that it has something to do with the database marking, however, really do not know?

Lots of lawyer/court things were most likely going on weeks ago when you first brought it up, and now it's a Holiday week, so give it some time.

I have noticed this in 3.0

If there are posts that are out of your permission group.
They still show up on the welcome page regardless of whether you have permission to view them or not. (They show up in the NEW POST number count)

So if you don't have the correct permissions then you can't see them and get the 'no new messages' or an incorrect number of returns.

Its been a contentious point with some on our site..

Any fix?.. and is this a security problem.. seeing as some component is actually reporting back data outside of its permission group...

Are you saying that the actual threads show up or just that the stats are over inflated?

I'm saying that it shows the actual number of new posts on the board total.

So if there are 10 new posts total.
And for the registered user there are 5 of those 10 in their permission group they are still shown 10 total. Yet when they click on the actual new post button only five will be displayed.

My concern is that since its drawing outside of that permission group to show the total threads that there is a security issue that can be exploited.

Even more I don't want people to see there is activity going on outside of there user group especially those in higher groups.

Either way its annoying getting emails "i can't see all the posts" all the time.

The new post count is stored in the session table now for optimization reasons and it cannot take forum permissions into account with the current version. This does not open up any security exploits though as just seeing the count does not allow them to see the threads.
