Message editor errors and a farewell.

I have discovered that for whatever reason, since applying the vBa portal, nobody has been able to use the advanced message editor. They are riddled with errors and other problems. I have tested this phenomenon on clean vbtest installations several times to the same conclusion. While I am a seasoned developer with other twelve years of experience, and am completely positive of the accuracy of my intallation, I simply do not have time to find the technical cause of this oddity nor find a resolution. Considering that I have, until recently, insisted that my boards contain no hacks to make things easier come upgrade time, I will be removing the portal and all modules. I will not be using this again in the future, choosing instead, to remain pure.

Hmmm..... so why not simply submit a support ticket whence Brian, I am certain, will take a detailed look at this for you...?

Seems a shame (and strange) to me Drew, when you have such a lovely looking site, that you would choose not to look for outside help and support in resolving your issue.

Go on.... ask Brian or someone here... you know you want to!...

My guess would be a incorrect edit to the .js file.

I appreciate the supporting words, but honestly, I was real hesitant to install it to begin with. I've always (for the past five years) run everything native to whatever product I bought. This includes vB. Since most of what the portal offers is merely aesthetic, I have simply chosen to revert back to pure vB. Nothing above was intended as an insult, only a personal preference.

That's about the same lines I was thinking. It's his site and his choice of course though.

I can't think of a case where the CMPS has ever affected the WYSIWYG editor though, unless the CMPS was integrated with the new reply page. Seems to me the problem would be elsewhere, but if you ever decide to install the CMPS again and have any problems just let me know and I'll be glad to help.

I think the last time someone had an issue with the editor, it turned out to be another hack that was causing the issue.

Have you taken a look at CMPS 2.x yet? Unlike the 1.x base where you modified several files CMPS 2.x only requires a few lines to global.php and the rest of the changes are now optional. To 'remove' CMPS from vB can now be done in a matter of minutes (or less, depends upon how fast you are with a editor ).

Thanks. I may revisit this idea once vb 3.5 final is out and this catches up. For now, my users actually agree with me that the forum looks a lot cleaner without it. I have no non-forum related content to speak of, so to simply repackage the display seemed a little silly. In any regard deinstalling was easy enough. It was the only hack so I just ran the deinstall script, reverted some templates and uploaded stock files.

P.S. This is what I mean by ease of upgrading. To move from what I had to vb3.5 would've required more extensive editing, which I wasn't looking forward to. Now, even if I return to vBa, the job has been made easier.
