Default Flag post as news item

I dug around and didn't find a similar idea as this, so here goes...

How about feature that allows a post to be flagged as a news item and have the ability to have the post be in any thread or forum instead of in a specifically designated thread. For example, I have a thread that we post in for World of Warcraft news that everyone posts in. However, it would be nice to flag specific posts to have them show up on the frontpage (vBadvanced) as a news item. And then to take this a step further to make it permissions based so that only specified users can flag the posts.

Any thoughts?
