Default What is the variable to pull up individual modules?

OK I want to do away with the default adv_portal template and hand code my own, which doesn't use columns. I don't want to use $column1,2,3 e.t.c. - I want to use $module1,2,3...11,12,13 e.t.c. How can this be done?

Currently about the only way to do that would be to completely re-write the part of the code that deals with modules.

Ah bugger! I thought it seemed a little too easy in my head. Thanks for the quick reply, I guess I will just use the table trick to get extra columns.
