Default Modules will not work when turned On

For some reason, I can't get the latest posts to show on my home page now, and I have no idea why,

I turned it on and left the number of recent threads to default but nothing shows.

Advice appreciated.

Have you made sure that the module was active in the "Modules Enabled" section of the page you're trying to enable it on?

This one kicked me also. Type in some letters in the bbcode option and see what happens.

Yeah that worked no problem, still not showing new posts though.

Those are inactive modules. If a module is inactive then it can't be used on any pages, and is therefore grayed out.
