Lightbulb Limitations and uses of the CMPS file

My site is one in which the forums area is in a directory below the root:The purpose of this is of course to have a website that incorporates Forums as a feature. However, VBulletin is powerful and in my case (and in the case of many others) we want to leverage VBulletin's authentication, authorization, profiles etc. and build our website around it.

So what is the strategy for doing this?
  • Install VB in /forums?
  • Install VB in /?
You can say it depends on what you are trying to accomplish, but when using CMPS the purpose is to build around and on VB's capabilities.

The CMPS file appears to not be able to automatically link to directories other than the directory it sits in. That is, its works by parameters with the current directory static and never changing. As such it does not seem to make sense to have 2 CMPS files in 2 different directories because to link between them you will have to do so manually (a CMPS page only knows how to create links automaticlly when its relative to itself in its particular directory level.)

I want to know what is the "smart" way of using CMPS to build a portal around the core capabilities of VBulletin: what the limitations and benefits are of doing one thing or another, and how other people are building such beautiful sites using this add-on framework.

The following collection of threads are popular but do not address these issues:
It would be great to speak to people here on the forum who have been creative with how to use CMPS, and who are willing to get into the deeper considerations with regards to using this system.

Thanks!

Jonathan

Default Re: Limitations and uses of the CMPS file

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking here... The links have nothing to do with where the file is placed though. It prefixes any forum links with the URL you have set for your Forum URL option under your main vB settings.
