The feed works fine on my test page so that's not the problem. About the only things that can make the module not show up are the templates are missing or one of the CMPS settings is incorrect. If you want to PM me ACP info I'll be happy to take a look.

fopen wrappers / curl are disabled

could this be why this is not working? if so is there any other workarounds for this?

Yup. Usually one or the other is enabled. Sounds like if your host isn't open to allowing one of these you may need to find a better provider.

yeah unfotuneatly I am on a free host right now. this is the excuse i got from the provider:

Quote:
Unfortunately the mechanics of free hosting open us up to so much abuse, and functions that *connect* to other places are disabled

Every free webhost will have the fopen wrappers / curl disabled, as they can be used to make the hosting server a proxy / download / upload server for anyone who wants)

It is a shame that people abuse these services, so that free hosts can not give them however, if you need any other assistance please let us know.

I am thinking of maybe designing a module that will use ajax and php what you think?

I think that if you are going to run a "real" site then you need a "real" host.

I have my site hosted by a very good provider with good response time and it doesn't cost me that much. In fact, the little advertising I have more than offsets the cost of the provider.

I have the problem that I can only get 1 feed to work and that's a feed I don't want, but I've just been trying different feeds to get it to work. I can see that all the feeds I've been trying are in the cache folder, but nothing shows up one the webpage, exept for that one feed. What could be wrong ?

What are some of the feeds that don't work? Also, a link to you page would be helpful.

My site is http://www.sunddebat.com

Here's a few feeds that wont work:

http://ekstrabladet.dk/rss2/?mode=normal
http://www.dmi.dk/dmi/kbh-udsigt.rss
http://nyhederne.tv2.dk/rss/nyhederne.xml
http://www.dr.dk/Regioner/Kbh/Newsfeed/rss

And the one I want the most:

http://sydsvenskan.se/rss/skane

Now 2 that works

http://borsen.dk/newsfeed/rss/?categoryId=1
http://hd.se/rss/lokalt/senaste.xml (the one in use now)

Unfortunately, I need to login to see the site

On a positive note, all the feeds you listed worked fine on my test page. As far as some showing up and others not I don't really have a simple answer. If some show up then the templates are good as far as the style goes so that doesn't answer/solve your other problem. Do the cache files get created for those that don't show up for you?

Anyone?
There's no real limit as to how many you can have on a page. I personally run 3 copies on my site.

Since the module doesn't interfere with any of the standard modules I'm unsure why you are experiencing the difficulties you are. Does you vb install have any other problems that seem strange?

What other non vba modules or vb hacks/plugins are you running besides this one?

Thanks for getting back to me Tom

Let me clarify a bit of what's going on at the moment as it seemed a bit unclear (and snotty) after re-reading my original post.

Before, when I first installed the module, sometimes the RSS modules would show up, sometimes they wouldn't. Sometimes, only some of them would show up. But, it wouldn't ever crash my CMPS.

Until recently that is; All of them stopped working. It doesn't matter which RSS module I enable; I get a blank screen

I have just recently installed vBa CMPS, so I haven't really had enough time to find out if there are any other problems. I haven't found anything though. I don't have any other vba modules added and the only other plugin that I had installed at the time was one that would separate sticky threads, which shouldn't have anything to do with this module... Do you think that something might have happened during the install?

ok, I reinstalled the module and everything seems to be working. I think I may have found out what happened. I just wanted to show the titles of each post in each feed. So, what I did was I went into the adv_portal_rssbits template and removed some code. I'm guessing I removed something that I shouldn't have and it finally just stopped working.

So, my question is what is the standard way of only displaying the title of each post?

Ah, the truth finally comes out...

The simplest thing to do is to add the code to delete the message text using the Code modification section of the module. Something like this should do the trick.
$rss_item['DESCRIPTION']='';
That's going from memory but I do believe it's correct.

yep Sorry, I totally forgot that I had done that until I reinstalled the module. The weird thing is why did it work at first (after I deleted the code), and then all of a sudden crash? It didn't crash for a few days. Strange...

Hey, at least it works now

Thanks for the advice, it worked perfectly and is exactly what I needed. I figured I needed to add something in that box, but I didn't know what.

Last question I swear, haha! Would you happen to know of any way to put ellipses (specifically, [...] ) on a title if the title went past X amount of characters?
