Default News Module Permissions Check Oddity

On my forum, both the News and News Archive modules only appear for users who are logged in and not for guests. I have the guest usergroup permissions for "Can View Thread Content" set to NO, but ... I have "Can View Others' Threads" set to YES. This exact setup works as intended for the Recent Threads module, but not the News ones (which is setup with identical module and permissions settings).

Is there a different permissions check coded within news.php vs. recentthreads.php?

My point being, shouldn't threads (not their content) show up in News as long as "Can View Others' Threads" is set to Yes? This would follow the same convention of allowing viewing forums within vBulletin (and even the Recent Threads module follows this convention).

Edit: Oh and there is a quirk workaround. If you select individual threads in the News module options, they will appear to guests as intended. However, when you select only whole forums, the module does not appear at all for guests.

You will either need to enable the 'Can View Thread Content' permission setting for those forums since the news module displays thread content, or you could turn off the 'Apply Forum Permissions' setting in the news module to ignore the permissions and show threads to all members.

This is exactly what I needed to do. Works great since I'm only pulling news items from a semi-public forum anyway. Thank you for the assist!

Looks like I have the same problem after upgrading to RC2, however I have the following checked off in forum permissions:

Can View Forum Yes

Can View Thread Content Yes

Can View Others' Threads Yes

And still the News does not show up for people not logged into the site. Weird...
www.caymanclub.net is the site
