Default Multiple Categories

In a previous discussion it was brought up that it would be nice if we could assign entries to multiple categories. I followed that up with:

Quote:
We should be able to choose a main category and then several subcategories (kind of like VB's user and additional user groups). Imagine I had articles for "Camping Trip Reports" (main category), that also needed a state associated (subcategory), and season (subcategory). I will need this feature to properly migrate a section of my site to Dynamics and I think it would be a commonly needed feature.
Another example is that in a Dynamics classifieds implementation I need to be able to assign an entry to Product Type Category, and Location so that I can display entries by either criteria on the front end.

This feature will really improve the flexibility of Dynamics. I would be willing to pitch in some extra $$ to move this up the priority list if that would help.

Thanks!

I am not sure if I undestand what you meant. Do you mean that you want an entries belongs to many categories at the same time? If yes, I have asked Brian and he said "no" at this time. Howver, I intend to use tag fo this function.

After messing around with Dynamics more, it looks like most of what I want to accomplish can be done with custom fields in the entries. Althought multiple categories would be a nice option, I do not think it is as important as I thought at first.

Actually it seems custom categories is not going to work for me because search results can't be linked to in Vbulletin.

If I have a custom field "product location" - I need to be able to filter results based the value of that field and link to the results. Any idea how to do this Brian?

This is a great idea and I am also missing the opportunity to make a direct link based on custom fields. This would make it much easier to make nicer and more intuitive navigation! To be more concrete: In Vbulletin each user field has its own Id. What I (and I think Techmonkey) would like is something like: search.php?do=getall&field2[]=1

So if you are having a car page. Then instead of having a subcategory for each car type - you just use the custom fields and make a link directly through the navigation. Then you could do like here:

Mercedes: Blog, Articles
BMW: Blog Articles
Skoda: Blog Articles

Hover the urls for example
