Default Forum on a sub domain...

Is having your forum on a sub domain going to cause any problems for me later? My folder structure looks something like this:

\Host Root
\Host Root\domain.com
\Host Root\subdomain.domain.com

My forum is just sitting in the root of the subdomain...

Is this setup ok? I know most places just have it as domain.com\forum

Is there any advantage to doing it that way, other than keeping the forum files seperate from the site files? I'm really wondering if I should just put it back to where everything is under mydomain.com....

What are your thoughts on subdomain vs no-subdomain??

I run my site this way... site.com then forums.site.com I like to keep my files in order as well as I like using index.php for both the boards and main page it is a more common file name. Cause if your forums and portal are in the same dir you will have to rename the forum index.. not that it will be all that bad.. just my prefs..
