I want to create a left side module that just has a .gif file in it promoting a giveaway. I assume I create a template and a module but what do I need to put in them in order to just insert a .gif file? Thanks.

Simply insert the code for the gif file within the template used for the module... suggest using:
<img src="http://www.yourdomain.com/yourimagelocation/your_gif_image.gif" width="xxx" height="yyy"> And change the relevant bits of course....

Is that all the code needed in the template and what module would I use?

Well... you could use the default template provided in one of the threads here on vBa... or if you were happy for simply the gif to be displayed, then that would be all you needed.
Here's the thread - http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/show...default+module <table align="center" border="0" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" class="tborder" width="100%"> <thead> <tr> <td class="tcat smallfont" style="font-weight: bold;"><a style="float: $stylevar[right]" href="#" onclick="return toggle_collapse('forumhome_$mods[filename]')"><img id="collapseimg_forumhome_$mods[filename]" src="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/collapse_tcat$vbcollapse[collapseimg_forumhome_randomtopic].gif" width="15" height="15" border="0" alt="Collapse/Expand" /></a>$vba_options[portal_blockbullet] $mods[title]</td> </tr> </thead> <tfoot style="display: none;"><tr><td></td></tr></tfoot> <tbody id="collapseobj_forumhome_$mods[filename]"> <tr style="$vbcollapse[collapseobj_forumhome_randomtopic]"> <td class="$getbgrow"> <!-- put gif image here --> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <br />

Really all I need is for the .gif to appear there. I have that working but there is no spacing now between it and the next module. You can see the iTunes giveaway box here:
