Hello, I was hoping you guys wouldn't mind sharing some more of your brain power with me..lol

I have a few issues I am trying to work out and nobody will answer my questions ever on the other site unless I ask in the paid service section... All I need is for someone to point me in the right direction ....

Here is a list of some of my problems and issues...


#1-- Page Width-- There is a slight scroll when being viewed at 1024 by 768.. it even gets worse when viewed at lesser resolutions... How can I make my site compatable with all resolutions???

#2-- This is basically the same type of problem.. When my site is viewed at higher resolutions the header does not go all the way accross the page...


#3-- I would like to have a module showing previews of recently posted articles on the VBA page.. I would prefer this somehow be done automatically but if that is not possible I would post them myself if you can give me an idea on how to do this..

#4-- I also want to do the same think with my links and downloads page.. I want to be able to list recent addiditions on the main VBA page..

Right now I think my VBA page is a real turn off to my users because it seems to be mainly news oriented. I already have an entire VBIndex page dedicated to news so I want to steer the VBA page away from this....


any help or advice would be so awesome....

- For your Links and Downloads pages, it depends upon what type of hack they are. If you let us know which Links and which Downloads pages you're using somebody may have already come up with a solution.

I don't have Cing's.... I used to but now I have VBArticles.. I will edit this post in about 5 minutes and let you guys know which exact hacks these are...

I'm not using v3Articles myself so I'm not familiar with all of it's details but from reading the instructions in that module it sounds like it just means to don't forget to turn the module on in the pages you want it.

To clarify that.... when you add a new module one of the options is if you want to add it to all existing pages and it's up to you to say yes or no. If you said yes then you're done but if you said no then you have to edit the page to turn on the checkbox next to the module name on the pages you want the new module to appear on. To put it another way, when you create new modules they don't automatically appear on your CMPS pages unless you checked chose "Yes" when you were adding the module -- if you chose "No" then you need to go into each CMPS page and specifically turn it on.

v3Article/CMPS Module - Last 10 Articles

This CMPS module uses the excellent v3Article system developed by John Warwick. The module displays the 10 most recent articles submitted, in DESC order, (Last article submitted is first in list).

This module also includes the author of the article with a link to his pubilc profile and how many views the article has had.

You can vie the module in action on the right hand side of http://www.marijuana.com - the module is titled "The Magazine".

You'll need to upload the php file to your modules directory and create two new templates named "adv_portal_articles" & "adv_portal_articlesbits". Add the contents of the respective text files to the new templates and save. Next, create the new module using the drop down menu selecting "cmps-articles.php". In the "templates used" field enter the following templates.

adv_portal_articles,
adv_portal_articlesbits

Dont forget to update your index pages(s) to show the new module.

Let's back up a step... What steps exactly have you taken so far? When you created the template & module, what values did you use?

For the 2 templates I used the text that was included in the zip file... and I have uploaded the cmps-article.php to the modules folder..



Dam, this thing had my whole articles section down for a while... I install hacks all the time but I just hate instructions that leave you hanging....

Richie, as I mentioned I'm not using v3articles. If I was more familiar with it I'd be more than happy to help. However, the odds are that there are people who are familiar with it and are using that other module so the best thing is to just be slightly patient and give them a chance to respond.

Grrrrr--- Now, Now, Now, Now!!! lol Just kidding....

I do get a little impatient though when I spend like 5 hours trying to install one little simple hack..... I mean I put my whole site up in less than an hour... lol

I think I have figured out though that it must be my style that is messing things up......... The error I am getting now is

No problem. Now go get some sleep but before you do answer one question: Are you using vBadvanced Links or something else for your links? I can't offer a solution for your links question if I don't know what application you're using.
