Alternative News Module (RSS News Feeds)

I know vbulletin has support for RSS, Javascript and XML, but I am confused. Are the external data provider options used for implementing Vbulletin content on other external HTML pages, or is it for adding RSS or similar feeds to Vbulletin pages?

I was in need of content for my site from which I had to remove all the news articles I was quoting from local newspapers. I have found that you can get RSS news feeds from a number of sites. Here is an article with more info

What I would like to do is add a thread containing javascipt code that will pull in RSS news feeds to a message in the news forum thus the news feeds appear on the front page center column news. Is this possible or will I have to add a custom module.
