Well as long as we've got a thread started about this, anyone want to share some ideas as to what features you would like to see in a blog script?

My only issue would the same that I have with most article systems... that I'd prefer the content be forum based instead of having a totally seperate DB for the entries. That way searches, etc, can get hits on the entries. After that, an out-of-the-box module for CMPS would be nice and perhaps some type of integration with vBa Gallery (eg: "Hey, here's a pic I took while on vacation....").

But I'm not a big blog fan so you can ignore this.

Well, don't get me wrong.. vBJournal isn't a bad blog script, but after the recent security problems with it and the inconsistency of the code - I don't feel overly confident with using or modifying it.

One of the best vBulletin integrated blog scripts I've seen is ChocoJournal. I've contacted the owner about possibly letting me use the script for a negotiable license fee but he never replied. So possibly something with similar features would be nice, especially ChocoPost. That feature is pure genius and makes life so easy.!

I agree fully with this, but to expand upon it a little more, can you give each user the choice whether their blog is public or private?

A pretty cool blog to look at for some features is this one...also IPB's blog with it's draggable boxes is pretty cool and has some features you might take a look at...

Well, that would be a DREAM-Come-True thing.

Here's a small list of my requests -

1. Ability to have categories for blogs (user should be able to specify it).
2. Picture blogging ability (moblogging). Also, a possible integration with gallery? (Like the latest pictures from that person's album).
3. Ability to have RSS feeds for each blog.
4. Calendar feature.
5. Ability to have blog buddies and have the ability to make certain posts visible to only your blog buddies.

That's the stuff right off my head. I'd chip in more ideas as soon as they strike me!

Man, can't wait for you to come up with this script!

I'm going to add one more item to my own wish list.... besides the RSS feeds make an XML output option that is using a format similar to Blogger, Movable Type and WordPress. That way the various hacks & sites that accept feed links can accept vBa Blog feeds as well then.

(If anybody is on Digital Point you know what I mean. )

Most important thing is how it looks.

Blog systems tend to look much more "clean", more journalistic, than vB.

ex: WordPress

There is a Magpie RSS hack for it on vB.org (3.5 Plugins area).

Edit: Though yes, it would be cool to have XML output too.

I've got full confidence that when Brian pulls this one out of the hat it'll be a corker. I'm not gonna list all my wants as of yet, I'll wait until a release is available.

My main want though, is to have it import all of my old data from vBJournal - that would be great.

I personally wouldn't want it to integrate with threads - I think an independant search would be better and more useful. I plan on trying to create a search product for vB, which by using Ajax will support a number of searches for various hacks - via the search.php page. It's a long way away mind, am just starting to check out 3.5's code and I am by no means php savvy lol.

- User catagories that can be named and described by the user
- Journal itself can be named and described by user
- Attachments
- Modular like cmps, possible blocks would be latest vba gallery submits and posts/threads.
- RSS import/export for use with other blogs
- Downloadable blog as text file.
- Buddy system

Just saw this thread. Pretty amazing. I didn't know this is possible with CMPS. Brian, if you could create something like that, you'll make my day
